MoRun 10k

Race: MoRun, Croxteth Country Park
Distance: 10k
Date: 18th November 2017
Supporting Runners: Phil Lane, Ste Dawson, Natalie McGuire & Abby Kay
Fundraising to date: £540

30for30 kicked off this morning on Adam’s 29th birthday with a fun ‘MoRun’ 10k in Croxteth Country Park in Liverpool.

MoRun is coincidentally run by charity ‘Movember’ that supports men’s health, including men’s mental health, so a percentage of our sign up payment for this race will go to that charity as well.

I woke up this morning feeling pretty sick… I took my own advice and didn’t have a bottle of wine the night before the run – instead I had a Friday night chippy tea and watched Space Jam 😂(a film Adam and I were obsessed with back in the 90s) and got an early night – so the sickness was definitely down to first race nerves…

After racing there on the last minute as always and leaving Phil and Ste to pick up our race packs, we got there in time for some quick snaps with super cool moustaches provided by moi…

Running this first race with these guys felt really special. I had 2 of my best pals there running with me and also 2 of Adam’s closest friends who I have grown close to since losing Adam, and now call friends of my own. It is bitter sweet how something so sad can bring people together, but I was so appreciative to have them there.

And of course, how can I forget the supportive fans who came to stand in the cold and watch this first race on Adam’s birthday – my family, Adam’s friends, the girls and Henry the dog! ❤️

So how did we do?

Ste and Phil absolutely smashed it and were gone and nowhere to be seen within minutes – I was actually scared at one point that they were going to lap me.

Abby was close behind and speedy on her first official 10k race, setting the standard for future PBs.

And Natalie and I were having a right good natter at the back – running at a nice steady pace, talking about life and what we were up to for the rest of the weekend. It was an excellent start and a nice warm up for 10miles tomorrow. We even had some lovely words of encouragement from Mum which included, “GET A MOVE ON”. I’ll gladly remind her of that next year when she is potentially joining me on a 5k..!
